PAUL GILBERT

Paul is the guy that really got my technique in order.

I really didn't get turned onto him until around 1990. His post Racer X days with Mr. Big.

I was at a summer guitar camp in Conneticutt and one of the classes showed his first instructional video, 'Intense Rock I'. At the time, I was pretty much a blues based player but was really craving some knowledge on how to break out of the "box". That was the reason I was there in the first place.

That video opened so many doors for me. I went out and bought that one and the follow up, 'Intense Rock II', and proceeded to practice my 3 note per string scales 6 to 8 hours a day.

I owe him a bunch for getting my picking in order. Since then he's become a much bigger influence than just technique.

Although he can shred as good or better than most anyone, he knows how to hold back and play great melodies and he's developed into an amazing pop style songwriter on his past few solo CD's.
